Rwanda Fast Facts:
- In 1994 more than 800,000 people were slaughtered in 90 days. This was on the heals of decades of attacks based on tribal affiliation.
- Approximately 7,000 children live on the streets of the city Kigali
- The village of Kageyo is a refugee resettlement with limited resources and in need of much help and empowerment
- Majority of Rwanda lives on less than $1/day
- Borders Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda
- Ranked 7th in the world for AIDS/HIV prevalence
- 50% unemployment rate
- 86% below poverty line
- Approximately 10 million people ~ more than 1 million of these are orphans
